The VIRTU is ORBITAL's electromechanical lightning strike counter — an essential component of any compliant lightning protection system. Installed in-line on the down conductor, the VIRTU records every lightning strike event that passes through the system, providing the documentation required for maintenance records under NFC 17-102.
The VIRTU requires no external battery. It is powered entirely by the current of the arrested lightning strike — the same current pulse it is measuring. This makes it completely maintenance-free in terms of power supply, eliminating any risk of counter failure due to depleted batteries in remote or difficult-to-access installations.
The 6-digit display is configurable from 3 to 7 digits per client preference. The IP65-rated polycarbonate enclosure protects the mechanism from weather, dust and moisture in all outdoor environments. Compatible with all ORBITAL ESE lightning rods and down conductor types.
