ORBITAL clamps provide the mechanical and electrical connections between all conductors in a lightning protection earthing system. Selecting the correct clamp type, size and material is critical — a poorly selected or installed clamp joint is one of the most common sources of increased earthing resistance over time. Match clamp material to the conductor materials being joined to prevent galvanic corrosion at the joint.

The range covers all standard connection types: square clamps for tape-to-structure and cable-to-structure, T clamps for inline conductor joints, multipurpose clamps for mixed tape/cable connections, and rod clamps for connecting conductors to driven earth rods. Gunmetal is the standard specification for copper conductor systems; stainless steel for stainless systems; aluminium for aluminium conductors.

Material Matching
Always match clamp material to the conductor material being joined. Mixing copper with aluminium or galvanized steel at a clamp joint creates a galvanic cell — in the presence of moisture, the less noble metal will corrode. Gunmetal is compatible with copper; stainless steel with SS conductors; aluminium with aluminium only.
Cut End Protection
If a rod must be cut to length, apply a corrosion-resistant compound to the cut end to seal the exposed steel core. The threaded ends are protected by the thread profile itself, but cut ends are vulnerable to accelerated corrosion if left unprotected in aggressive soils.
Earthing Resistance Target
Verify electrical continuity across each clamp joint after installation. Apply anti-oxidant compound to conductor surfaces before clamping in exposed or buried locations to prevent oxidation at the contact interface. Buried clamp joints should be protected with a waterproof compound or tape.
